Illustrated, Leather Binding, Scarce

In a full calf binding, with the gilt crest of R.H.C.S. to the front board. Decorative gilt to the spine and all edges marbled. 39 plates and 25 vignettes. Collated complete. A collection of engraved illustrations from Sir Walter Scott's novels. The contributing artists include, among others, landscape painter David Cox (1783-1859); genre painter Charles Robert Leslie (1794-1859); painter, illustrator and engraver Thomas Stothard (1755-1834); and painter, illustrator and lithographer Henry Courtney Selous (1803-1890).

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally very smart, with minimal rubbing to the extremities and joints. Internally, the binding is tender from pages 21 to 40, with many pages coming loose, but all are intact. Pages are generally clean, with a little spotting throughout.
