What Our Customers Say...
Description
Publishers' Original Binding, Signed, With Letter, With Slipcase
A collection of the early poems of Alfred Lord Tennyson, dating from 1830 to 1833, when Tennyson was in his 20s.
A pirated edition of Tennyson's early poems, forged by J. Dykes Campbell in collaboration with the bookseller John Camden Hotten.
With a loosely inserted letter from Campbell, dated 1891, on the letterhead of London's Savile Club, addressed to one W. Watts. In his short letter, Campbell recounts an evening after leaving the Club, and discusses sending a telegram.
Tennyson won a claim against Hotten for breach of copyright, but it seems likely that Dykes Campbell kept a number of copies which he then sold many years later.
