Scarce work. Illustrated with a hand-coloured frontispiece, hand-coloured title page, and six hand-coloured plates, with many in-text engravings. Collated complete. A charming annual of short stories and verses, with titles such as: Christmas All the World Round, Dog Tales, Monkey Stories, South African Lion Adventure, and When We Were Boys Together. Written by Samuel Griswold Goodrich, better known under his pseudonym Peter Parley, an American author. Edited by William Martin. With thirty-two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, two of which are folding pages.
Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light fraying to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Splits in the cloth to the joints at the head and tail of the spine. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd small spot or handling mark and light age toning to the extremities. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated Christmas 1861.
