A comprehensive dictionary-encyclopaedia covering literary, classical, historical, biographical, geographical, scientific and technological topics, by the antiquarian and prolific author Thomas Wright (1810-1877).
Volume I lists entries A to C. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece, an engraved title page, fifteen plates and six folding maps.
Volume II lists D to G. Illustrated with a frontispiece, seven plates and seven folding maps.
Volume III lists H to M. Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispiece, seven plates and five further folding maps.
Volume IV lists N to Q. Illustrated with a frontispiece, nine plates and two folding maps.
Volume V lists R to Z. Illustrated with a frontispiece, five plates and eight folding maps.
Collated, complete.
Condition
In half calf bindings. Externally, smart, with shelf wear to the boards and light rubbing to the joints. Spine labels have been discoloured with ink. Front hinge slightly strained to volumes IV and V, but hinges remain firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot, more so to the first and last few pages. Creasing to the folding maps.
