The first edition translated by Henry Thomas Riley of this monumental and important volume. 

Containing the first book of English Common Law; a thorough study of the legal, political, and social history of the city of London from the twelfth to the early fifteenth century. 

This book was originally compiled in 1419 by John Carpenter and Richard Whitington. 

translated by Henry Riley from the original Latin and Anglo-Roman.

Condition

Rebound in full cloth with new endpapers and a leather title label to the spine. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor chipping to the gutter of the half title page, and some minor offsetting and creasing to the same leaf as well as to the title page. Otherwise, the pages are generally bright and clean throughout with only the occasional, minor handling mark.
