Paul Du Chaillu was a French-American zoologist and anthropologist, who is known as being the first European outsider to confirm the existence of both gorillas and the Pygmy people of central Africa.

Rebound in cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few marks to boards. Photocopy of the original front board is pasted onto the paste downs. A few marks to rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with age toning and some spots to the margins. Folding frontispiece, title page, and pages iii-vi are provided in facsimile. Pages vii-x are repaired to the margin. Folding map is repaired to the reverse.
