Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Originally published in twelve installments between 1858-1860, the edition here is the first complete one, and is embellished with twelve hand-coloured, steel-engraved plates by Surtees' long-term collaborator John Leech, collated complete, as well as forty-six in-text wood engravings. Contains the bookbinders' label of one H&C Treacher of Brighton to pastedown.

Condition

In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart, there is slight wear to the extremities and joints, with some fading to backstrip and markings to boards, with mild tenderness to hinges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout, aside from the odd spot and handling mark, with an ink inscription to endpages.
