Although the poet, politician and humorist treats many subjects, across his famous emblem book, the poems often contain kernels of moral instruction. Indeed, many of the phrases he coined that have been retold over generations and are still colloquialisms in the Netherlands today.

In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbed to the boards and the spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
