The first edition of Captain William Scarth Moorsom's historical account of the Oxfordshire 57th light infantry regiment, between 1755 and 1858.
The regiment first saw active service during the American War of Independence, with later involvement in the Napoleonic Wars and Peninsular Campaign.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and twenty-four further plates, including nineteen coloured maps and three chromolithograph plates. Collated, complete.
To the front pastedown is the inscription of G. W. Windham Clive, of the 52nd regiment, dated February 1860.
To the front free endpaper is the inscription of Maurice G. Jove of the Society for Army of Historical Research and the Military Historical Society. Jove has annotated the work throughout, with numerous neat marginal notations.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading and discolouration to back strip. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with fraying to cloth. Front and rear joints strained, with boards slightly tender. Inscriptions to front pastedown and front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Significant spotting to page and plate perimeters, with frequent neat ink notations and inscriptions throughout.
