A three volume set of The Imperial Dictionary, English, Technological and Scientific, which is in two volume and an added Supplement to the Imperial Dictionary, which is in one volume. 

The Imperial Dictionary, English, Technological and Scientific is adapted to the present state of literature, science, and art on the basis of Webster's English Dictionary, with the addition of many thousand words and phrases from the other standard dictionaries and encyclopedias, and from other sources. Comprising all words purely English, and the principal and most generally used technical and scientific terms, together with their etymologies and their pronunciation, according to the best authorities. These volumes are edited by John Ogilvie and have over two thousand engravings on wood throughout the text. 

The first volume has a frontispiece of The School of Athens by Raffaelle, that emblematizes the wisdom of the ancients. Within the introduction, Ogilvie describes the definition, origin and affinity of language.

The volumes have inscriptions to the front free endpapers. 

The Supplement to the Imperial Dictionary has nearly four hundred figures engraved on wood and adds words that have come into use since the publication of the Dictionary, additional words, obsolete words and makes any corrections.
