A very scarce work, being one of two hundred and fifty privately printed copies.
An extensive genealogical work by Beriah Botfield, in which he explores the families of de Boteville, Thynne, and Botfield, in the counties of Shropshire and Wiltshire.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-two plates, and two in-text engravings.
Collated, complete.
The author was of the Shropshire Botfields, in Earl's Ditton, his father was from Norton Hall in Northamptonshire. His family had an extensive business in coal mining and ironmaking in Shropshire.
Botfield set up a private printing press at his home in Norton Hall, where he produced this, alongside other bibliographical and genealogical works.
This 1858 edition was enlarged from a previous circulation of only thirty-five copies, produced by Botfield in 1843.
Condition
In the original quarter morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed, mostly to the leather. Some light marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Library label to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and spotted. Frontispiece is working loose.
