Bookplate of the scientist Franz Sondheimer to the front pastedown. Sondheimer was a Professor of Chemistry, awarded the Israel Prize in 1960 for his various contributions to science.
Written by William Taylor, an American Missionary Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Loss to the spine and joints. Minor rubbing and a little discolouration to the boards and spine. Light marks to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Prior owner's ink and pencil inscriptions to the verso to the front endpaper, and to the recto to the rear endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the frontispiece, and to the reverse of the plates facing pages 190, 203, 299, and 312.
