A complete two volume set of History of Ancient Pottery by Samuel Birch.
These volume comprise of the principal features in the history of the art of pottery from the most ancient period to the decadence of the Roman Empire.
The first volume explores Egyptian, Assyrian and Greek pottery and the second volume considers Greek, Etruscan and Roman pottery.
Samuel Birch was a British Egyptologist and antiquary.
With a bookplate to both volumes for W. H. Gregory who was an Anglo-Irish writer and politician and a leaflet for the Flaxman Gallery.
With six colour plates to the first volume and the second volume also has six, including the frontispieces. The volumes are also richly illustrated throughout the tex.
Collated, complete.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and some fading to the front board of volume two. With a bookplate to both front pastedowns for W. H. Gregory. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
