Description

Publishers' Original Binding

This work was published after 'pteridomania' had seized Britain. Coined by Charles Kingsley in 1855, this was a craze which saw ferns become a popular motif across art and textiles.

Written by George William Johnson (1802-1886), a British gardening writer. His other works included 'Dictionary of Gardening', 'Science and Practice of Gardening', 'The Wild Flowers of Great Britain' and 'Journal of Horticulture'.

This work ran four editions in less than five years, demonstrating its popularity.

Illustrated with in-text engravings.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with some bumping to the extremities and a little wear to the spine. Ownership inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are occasionally spotted, but otherwise bright.
