A very scarce first edition. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt detail. With an engraved frontispiece and two illustrated plates. Collated complete. An interesting work regarding the curiosities of natural history. With sections on rats, snakes and monkeys. Francis Trevelyan Buckland, also known as Frank Buckland, was an English surgeon, zoologist and popular natural historian. He was one of the key members and founders of the acclimatisation society in Britain. With an ink inscription dated 1857 to the front paste-down and another one dated 1858 to the title page.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt detail. Externally, smart with shelf wear to the edges and bumping to the spine. Some tears to the spine and marks to the boards. Contemporary ink inscription to the front paste-down. Hinges are strained but firm. Small tear to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, though creasing and wear to the binding throughout. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot and some light age-toning. Contemporary ink inscription to the title page.
