Illustrated, Leather Binding

With an illustrated frontispiece and a further fourteen illustrations comprising of a plate and vignettes. Eliot Warburton was an Irish traveller and novelist. The Crescent and the Cross was Warburton's first book and was formed from his travel articles first published in Dublin University Magazine. It is an account of his 1843 travels in Greece, Turkey, Syria, Palestine and Egypt.

Condition

In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to spine and board edges. Externally, generally smart with slight rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities. Library bookplate to front pastedown, Pembrokeshire Education Committee County Library. With an institutional stamp 'Withdrawn from stock' over the plate. Evidence of the removal of further institutional plates to recto of front endpaper and to front pastedown. Gift inscription to verso of front endpaper, 'Mauris Owen, From his sincere friend and tutor M L H, Eton : Election MDCCCLVII'. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with a few spots to the first and last few pages.
