Description

Publishers' Original Binding

This seven volume library set publishes a chronological account of state papers as preserved in the State Paper Office, which requisitioned all the supposed personal papers of the governmental officials writing them in 1702. These works contain missives of court and government officials, including dates and addressees of the papers, as well as brief outlines of the papers' purpose and contents, from some of Britain's most infamous monarchies, including Henry VIII, his children, Mary and Elizabeth, and James I. This seven volume set contains the following books, part of a larger collection: 'Domestic Series of the Reign of James I, 1603-1610', 1857, 'Domestic Series of the Reign of James I, 1611-1618', 1858, 'Domestic Series of the Reign of James I, 1619-1623', 1858, 'Domestic Series of the Reign of James I, 1623-1625, with Addenda', 1859, 'Vol 1. The Scottish Series of the Reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary, Elizabeth, 1509-1589', 1858, 'Foreign Series of the Reign of Edward VI, 1547-1553', 1861, and 'Calendar of Letters, Despatches, And State Papers, Relating to the Negotiations between England and Spain, Vol IV-Part I, Henry VIII, 1529-1530', 1879. With library plates to the front pastedown of each volume. An impressive collection that peers behind the curtain of courtly intrigue and planning, these seven volumes from the 'Calendar of State Papers' offer readers a rare insight into the running and ruling of a nation.
