The first edition. In the original full cloth binding. An interesting book regarding the science of social opulence. Exploring topics such as political economy, wealth and capital. Sargant differs from mainstream opinion in that he regards wealth in the sense of opulence instead of property. William Lucas Sargant was an English educational reformer, political economist and Victorian agitator for social improvement. He was heavily involved in the local affairs of Birmingham, and became J.P in 1949. Sargant strongly advocated for religious teaching in schools and was a chairman of the National Association League. He dedicated much of his life to studying political and economical questions, and published several books sharing his views. Small stamps for the Stowe Reading Room to the title page and half title page.

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Marks to the boards. Small tear to the upper spine. Hinges starting but firm. Offsetting to the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with age-toning to the edges and spotting towards to the front and rear of the novel. Library stamp to the title page and half title page.
