A collection of the popular fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimms, the infamous brother duo who wrote some of the best known fairy tales that are still told today.

Containing the stories 'The Golden Goose', 'Rose-Bud', 'Rumpel-Stilts-Ken', 'Tom Thumb', 'The Frog-Prince', 'Hansel and Grethel', and more.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and thirty in-text engravings.

Stated to the title as being stories originally told by 'Gammer Grethel', who was a fictionalised version of the wife of a village tailor who contributed some of the stories to the collection, Dorothea Viehmann.

Translated into English by Edgar Taylor.

Illustrated by George Cruikshank.

Also illustrated by Ludwig Grimm.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'C. Croft Jenna Albert, Southsea, 1867, .... Square, London'.

Condition

In a half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the boards and spine. A small amount of bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little discolouration to the spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Blind stamp to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with the occasional handling mark. A few light pen or pencil marks to the text.
