What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Very Scarce

The very scarce first edition of this mid nineteenth century guide to household management. With fifty-six plates illustrated with over two-hundred wood engravings. Collated, complete.

This is the work of John Henry Walsh, who usually served as a sports writer, but is here 'assisted in various departments by a committee of ladies'. With instructional information for families of a wide variety of income levels, Walsh includes medical advice with directions for the management of the nursery and sick room, alongside homemade domestic remedies.

Including chapters on home furnishings, heating, and the management of domestic help.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Loss to back strip head, significant bumping to spine. Bumping to extremities. Starting to front hinge, but still holding firm. Newspaper clipping to rear pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound with a few leaves loose but present. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd spot.
