The first edition. Complete in two volumes. In the original cloth binding with gilt lettering. Volume one consists of an illustrated title page, nine plates and a fold out map of the United States. Collated complete. Volume two consists of an illustrated title page and two plates. Collated complete. A travelogue of the United States, Cuba and Canada. With details on American culture, transport, geography, slavery, government and commercial prosperity. Passing through places such as Philadelphia, New Orleans, Havana and Toronto. This is an ex-library set with library bookplates to the front boards, date chart to the paste-downs and stamps throughout.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding with gilt lettering. Externally, a trifle rubbed with shelf wear to the edges and fading to the spine. Library title plate to the front boards. Hinges strained. Library date sheet to the front paste-downs. Handling marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Loss to the rear free endpaper of volume one. Library stamp to the front free endpaper of volume two. Internally, binding strained but still firm. Pages generally bright and clean with spotting to the plates. The occasional closed tear and some scattered marks throughout. Foxing towards the front of the books and to the title pages. Library stamp to the title page of volume one, and to the rear of both title pages.
