This set includes the first three volumes of this work (Volume I, Part I and II, Volume II, and Volume III, Part I and II) bound in five volumes, covering St. Matthew, St. Mark, and St. Luke.
Lacking Volume IV, which covers St. John.
Written anonymously, but later attributed to John William Burgon, an Anglican divine and former Dean of Chichester Cathedral.
Including an engraved frontispiece to Volume I, Part I.
Containing a contemporary inscription from a previous owner to the front blank of Volume I, Part I: 'Revd. James Dugan, in memory of a friend, Sept 1st, 1856'.
An uncommon work.
Condition
Uniformly bound in full calf. Externally, smart, with some rubbing to the spines, joints, and extremities. Leather lifting slightly to the head of Volume III, Part II. Containing a previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank of Volume I, Part I. Internally, hinges lightly strained to Volume I, Part I. Remaining binding is firm. Pages are bright and clean.
