A calf binding edition of Charles T. Browne's biography of Robert Southey, a contemporary of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This copy features a gilded spine and edges with stunning marble stained front and back boards.
Robert Southey was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1813 until his death in 1843, and is most noted as being the originator of the popular fairy tale 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.
A prize bookplate on the pastedown denotes that this was awarded to Miss Christina Beattie for Theory of Music by the Edinburgh Institution in 1861.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, very smart with some shelfwear to the joints in particular. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean.
