Herodotus was an Ancient Greek historian, remembered for his 'Histories', an account of the Greco-Persian Wars, which handles the lives of kings as well as important battles.
With a commentary by J. W. Blakesley (1808-1885), an English clergyman who penned the first English 'Life of Aristotle' and 'Four Months in Algeria' as well as this edition of Herodotus, published for the Bibliotheca Classica.
This work contains the original Greek text alongside Blakesley's commentary.
In a half calf binding, with wonderful marbled boards, edges and pastedowns.
Condition
In a half calf binding. Externally a trifle rubbed, in particular to the spines and extremities resulting in some loss to the leather. Internally generally firmly bound, with hinges strained but firm, pages are bright and clean bar the odd pencil annotation, in particular to the verso of the front endpaper of volume II.
