What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Very Scarce

A very scarce and interesting letter in which Pierce Connelly, an an Episcopal priest in America, responds to a letter published in the "Times" by the Earl of Aberdeen, George Hamilton-Gordon, titled 'The Treatment of the Madiai.'

The Madiai case concerned Francesco and Rosa Madiai, who received harsh, cruel sentences in Tuscany due to their Protestant religion in 1853. This sparked feelings of sorrow and indignation all the way to America and among the Protestant community, who felt sympathy for the pair; this letter is a perfect example of such discussions.

Condition

Disbound. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. With only minor spotting to the fore edge, affecting only the right margin slightly, not affecting the text.
