William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was a notable novelist and illustrator, best known for his satirical works, including Vanity Fair.

This work contains his six lectures on the English humourists of the eighteenth century, which he delivered in England, Scotland and America. These lectures explore the work of Jonathan Swift, William Congreve, Joseph Addison, Richard Steele, Alexander Pope, William Hogarth, Tobias Smollett, Laurence Sterne and many more.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with shelf wear to the extremities and to the head of the spine. Small tear to the head of the joints. Faint marks to the boards. Gilt remains bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
