The first edition of this work, later revised and expanded with further twenty-nine lines. In the original publisher's wraps. This was the first separate poem published after Tennyson's appointment as Poet Laureate.
Elegy dedicated to the life of the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley. Wellington was celebrated for his prolific and successful military career in the Napoleonic Wars; when he died, the nation mourned. He was given a state funeral, becoming one of the few British subjects to have been honoured in this way.
Condition
In the original publisher's wraps. Externally with slight markings to wraps, spine reinforced. Internally, firmly bound. Minor odd light spotting to first few leaves, pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
