Volumes one and two comprise the Diary of John Evelyn, volume three the Correspondence of John Evelyn, and volume four the Letters of Mrs. Evelyn with her character, by Dr. Bohun, and the aforementioned private correspondence. John Evelyn (1620 - 1706) was a noted English diarist and horticulturalist. An accomplished scholar with wide-ranging interests, John Evelyn was an influential figure in an age of particular cultural and scientific progress. His memoirs and letters give a fascinating portrait of life amongst seventeenth century intellectuals and the Restoration Court of Charles II.
