First Edition, Folding Plates, Rebound, Very Scarce

A very scarce two volume census detailing the population of England and Wales in 1851, printed and published by Her Majesty's Stationary Office and presented to the Houses of Parliament in 1852. 

With two volumes present, this first being Volume I, 'Population Tables. I. Numbers of the Inhabitants, in the Years 1801, 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841, & 1851'. This volume is divided into six divisions, with individual paginations and half titles, with each division detailing the population in various counties in the first half of the nineteenth century.

This volume is illustrated with twelve maps, eleven of which are folding, and the majority of which are in colour.

The second volume present is titled 'Index to the Names of the Parishes, Townships, and Places in the Population Tables of Great Britain'.

A scarce and precise original source detailing the population and concentration of Great Britain's inhabitants in the first half of the nineteenth century.

Bound in full cloth by Nottingham Public Libraries. With a number of library plates to the front pastedown and free endpaper of the Index volume, and further library markings to title pages and half titles of each volume.

Condition

Rebound in full cloth. Bumping to back strip heads and tails. Evidence of label removal to spine tails. Rubbing to front and rear joint of Population Tables volume, with rear joint starting to tail. Front and rear hinges of this volume starting, with boards holding firm. Library plates to front pastedown and free endpaper of Index volume. Internally, firmly bound. Library markings to title pages. Tape repairs to perimeters of first few leaves of Population Tables volume. Pages lightly age toned, with scattered handling marks.
