What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
After the death of Lady Stuart Wortley's husband in 1844, she embarked on a number of expeditions alongside her teenage daughter, Victoria. Between 1849 and 1850 they journeyed across the United States, beginning in New York, and eventually travelling south through Mexico, Panama and Peru.
The author narrates the course of their journey and the people and sites they encountered, in a work she describes in the preface as concerned with 'the gossip of travel', with portions derived from her personal letters.
With half title to volume II only, as called for.
Former owner inscription to head of each title page.
A scarce and popular work of Victorian era travel writing.
