First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce, With Letter
The first edition of this scarce work from author, biographer and book collector George Steinman Steinman.
An association copy, with the armorial bookplate of Marcus Steinman Kemmis, the author's nephew, to the front pastedown, and his inscription, dated 'Sheffield, 1893' to the recto of the front free endpaper.
Pasted to the verso of the front free endpaper is a letter, addressed to Mr. Kemmis from A. Maude, discussing how Maude has read the work 'with much interest - there is I think a mistake on page 28-9 of which I have made a note - I didn't like to note it in the text - But your uncle must have been wonderfully careful in all his research'. Maude's note is loosely inserted between the indicated pages.
Discussing the Kent manor house of Apuldrefield, and the history of its inhabitants, and featuring genealogical tables.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with light fading to back strip. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown, inscription to recto of front free endpaper. Letter pasted to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
