This work first appeared in 1850, with this being the fourth edition. 

Illustrated with vignette diagrams and figures throughout. 

With a presentation inscription; 'To Oliver Hilson from his father January 30, 1872'. 

Loosely inserted is a flyer advertising a one-man play regarding the life of Hugh Miller, taking place at the Netherbow Arts Centre, Edinburgh 2002, and starring Alex Heggie as Miller.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart; a little bumped to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Gift inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are just a spot age-toned to the edges.
