What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Last seen at auction in 1999, this delightful work of microscopy was one of the first books published that sparked a Victorian obsession with these 'worlds unseen' in the 1850s. Agnes Catlow was a popular science writer, known most notably for her work in the field of conchology, and produced this book to be more accessible to those beginners with microscopes than more scientific and less genial academic works. First edition. With four coloured plates, collated complete. In Catlow's words, a 'spirit named Science' opens the door to 'a medium different from our atmosphere' that any readers might find by looking down a microscope, or else, into this book.
