Originally published as a serial in 'The Art Journal'.
A work by Anna Maria Hall in which she explores a selection of shrines to various literary and historical figures of England, illustrated with in-text engravings throughout.
Such shrines include the birthplace of John Bunyan, the residence of Hannah More, the tomb of Sir Thomas Gresham, the printing office of William Caxton, the dwelling of James Barry, the prison of Lady Mary Grey, and more.
With notes and illustrations by F. W. Fairholt.

Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine and extremities are faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss. Some marks to the cloth, including a damp stain to the joints, heavier to the tails. A couple of very small chips to the front joint. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Small tidemark to the tail of the paste downs and endpapers, and to the first and last few pages of text. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the occasional scattered spot.
