The sixth edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the spines, with the binder's label to the rear paste downs. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume II. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume and a full page map to Volume I. William Hickling Prescott (1796-1859) was one of the most eminent historians of 19th century America. He is admired Prescott for his careful use of archives and his accurate and lively recreation of events. He was primarily focused on political and military affairs. His history of the conquest of Peru was a successful and critically-acclaimed work. 2 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little bumping to the extremities and the boards. Front hinge to Vol I is splitting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot to the last couple of pages, and heavier spotting to the frontispieces and surrounding leaves. Small faint stain to the rear paste down of Vol I.
