What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound, Scarce

A fascinating collection of memoirs and memories from the Mosley family, a noble family of Great Britain, from its beginnings in Norman England, through the mid nineteenth century. Written by Sir Oswald Mosley of Ancoats, 2nd Baronet, he dedicates this work to his children and descendants, 'not with the vain intention of filling your minds with arrogant notions of high descent...but with the humble hope, that by exhibiting to your view such of their virtues, and of their failings, as I have been able to trace, you may be encouraged to imitate the former, and avoid the latter'.

Notable Mosely family members include Sir Oswald Mosley, 4th Baronet, the author's grandson, who was nicknamed 'Baronet John Bull', due to his resemblance to John Bull the national personification of Great Britain, and Sir Oswald Mosley, 6th Baronet, a noted early twentieth century British politician who favoured fascism.

This work contains an engraved frontispiece portrait, and a further four engraved plates, one of which is in colour and one of which is folding.

Collated and complete.
