A devout Christian, in this verse drama set in the Middle Ages, Kingsley tells the story of the medieval saint Elizabeth of Hungary, with the saint starring as the heroine of his piece.
A lovely first edition copy of this play, thought to have been inspired by a conversation Kingsley had with his wife about 'the sanctity of the marriage-bed'.

In a signed half calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip and paper vellum boards. Front joint starting, with board slightly tender. Binder's stamp to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
