The first edition of this work. A scarce work. An engrossingly in-depth work looking into the statistics of the coal industry in England and across the world in the mid nineteenth century. Illustrated with one colour folding map, five colour folding plates, and many in-text illustrations. Written by Richard Cowling Taylor, an English surveyor and geologist. Library label to the front pastedown, 'Norfolk & Norwich Library'.

Condition

In a half cloth binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Minor rubbing to the boards. A small amount of bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots, and tidemarks to the some pages. Folding plate facing page 144 is torn, with about a quarter of it detached but present.
