Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist and poet. Scott remains a celebrated figure in Scottish literary history, and the landscape of Scotland features heavily in his works. He was particularly popular as a poet, and remained the most celebrated poet in his day until Lord Byron's 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage' in 1812.
Each volume is complete with a frontispiece illustration and an engraved title page.
Volumes I to IV comprise 'Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border'; with some sheet music included within.
Volume V comprises 'Sir Tristrem'. Illustrated with a facsimile plate.
Volume VI comprises 'The Lay of the Last Minstrel' and 'Ballads'.
Volume VII comprises 'Marmion'. Illustrated with a facsimile folding plate.
Volume VIII comprises 'The Lady of the Lake'.
Volume IX comprises 'The Vision of Don Roderick' and 'Rokeby'.
Volume X comprises 'The Lord of the Isles'.
Volume XI comprises 'The Bridal of Triermain', 'Harold the Dauntless', 'The Field of Waterloo' and 'Songs and Miscellanies'.
Volume XII comprises the dramatic pieces of Sir Walter Scott: his translation of Goetz con Berlichingen, the House of Aspen, Halidon Hill, MacDuff's Cross, the Doom of Devorgoil and the Ayrshire Tragedy.
With all twelve volumes present. Collated, complete.
A lovely example of these important pieces of Scottish literature.
Condition
In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally very smart, with just slight rubbing to the spines and extremities on occasion, particularly to the tail of volume X and the head of volume VIII. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a little spotting to the first and last leaves on occasion.
