The first complete edition. Originally published in twelve parts from March 1846 until November 1847. Rebound in full calf, with gilt detail. Illustrated with two folding plates, and one-hundred and sixty plates. Collated complete. Written by the brother duo Joshua Arthur Rodrigues Brandon and John Raphael Rodrigues Brandon, both of whom were keen advocates of the Neo Gothic style. This volume is one of their three seminal publications on Early English architecture. In this volume they explore a total of sixty-three churches in England, each exampled through a perspective view, a short text description, and a plan of each church. Churches discussed in this volume include Wimmington, Burton Lazars, Crowcombe, Long Stanton, Higham, Temple Balsal, Rickenhall, and more. With an ink signature for one,'Edwin A. Farrer', dated 1868, to the front paste-down.

In a full calf binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Rubbing to the extremities. Cracks to the joints. Marks to the boards and spine. Closed tear to the spine. Rear hinge is strained but still firm. Front hinge is weak but still attached. Ink mark and inscription from previous owner to the front paste-down. Offsetting to the edges of the paste-downs and free endpapers. Small tear to the upper front free endpaper and front paste-down. Ink mark to the front free endpaper. Discreet blindstamp for, 'Neatham Mill Library' to the rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned but generally bright and clean. Spotting towards the front and rear with the odd spot throughout. Offsetting to the tissue guards. The odd light handling mark throughout.
