It has been described as 'the most admirable biography in the English language' after Boswell's 'Life of Johnson'.

Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist and poet. Scott remains a celebrated figure in Scottish literary history, and the landscape of Scotland features heavily in his works. He was also a political figure, prominent within the Tory establishment, and served as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for twelve years, between 1820 and 1832. He was a member of Clan Scott, a prominent Scottish clan.
