What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce handwritten account book for farmer Edward Pilcher, who was based in Brabourne, in the Ashford district of Kent.
This account book offers an extensive look at farming in England during the Victorian era. Pilcher has faithfully noted his accounts for purchasing and selling corn, sheep, wood, hay, cows, and other agricultural commodities, alongside pages dedicated to Pilcher's servants and their payroll.
Pilcher has written a brief note on his own farming history to the rear: "Took Court Farm + Scotts Hall ... 1879, Left Court Farm 1891 For Horton Priory Hythe, Left Horton Priory 1903 for West Hougham ..., Edward W. Pilcher".
A unique volume on Victorian agriculture.
