First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

With errata tipped in following the contents pages. Illustrated, with a frontispiece. Sir Christopher Hatton was the Lord Chancellor of England and favourite of Elizabeth I of England. It was Hatton that found Mary, Queen of Scots guilty of treason. The author of this work, Sir Nicholas Harris Nicholas, was an English antiquary. He was a barrister, and was confined to peerage cases before the House of Lords. He was devoted to the study of genealogy and history. Other works by Nicholas include 'History of the Orders of Knighthood of the British Empire' and 'The Chronology of History'. Prior owner's inscription to the title page. An extremely bright copy of this work.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper boards. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Light spots to the endpapers, and minor offsetting to the title page. Otherwise, pages are very clean.
