Sir Christopher Hatton was an English politician, Lord Chancellor of England and a favourite of Elizabeth I of England. His life and letters are explored in this text by Nicholas Harris Nicolas the notable English antiquary who also wrote a well-renowned biography of William Davison, the secretary to Queen Elizabeth I. This copy contains an errata slip tipped to page 1. Featuring a portrait of Sir Christopher Hatton. Contemporary prior owner's ink inscription to second free-endpaper: 'H Van de Weyer From his sincere friend Norman Grosvenor on his leaving Eton Xmas 1859.'

Condition

In a polished calf binding. Externally, very smart. Slightly rubbed to extremities and joints. Handling marks to boards.Front hinge tender, with front free endpaper attached only to tail of gutter. Rear hinge split but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to second free-endpaper, dated '1859'. Internally firmly bound. Binding only strained, showing chords between frontispiece and title page. Pages very bright and clean throughout, with light spotting only to first and last few pages. Offsetting from frontispiece to title page. First few pages age toned. Pages very slightly age toned to edges.
