Horace, or Horatio Walpole was an English art historian, man of letters, antiquarian, Whig politician and son of the first British Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole. Whilst Horace Walpole is now largely remembered for his Gothic novel, 'The Castle of Otranto', his literary reputation also rests on his Letters, which are of significant social and political interest. Indeed, Walpole's numerous letters are often cited as an invaluable historical resource. Collated complete, with four portrait plates to each volume. Featuring two pages of publishers advertisements to the rear of volume I and VI. In an attractive green quarter crushed morocco binding with marbled boards.

Condition

In a quarter crushed morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally generally smart. Slightly rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spine. Small patches of rubbing to spines and boards. Fading to spines. Evidence of removal of bookplate to front pastedown, all volumes. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting to first and last few pages and the odd spot to occasional page. Scattered spotting to plates, all volumes. The occasional handling mark to the odd page. Plates offset to facing page, all volumes. Small tidemark to page 272, volume VI.
