Illustrated, Leather Binding

A three volume set of 'The Works of Shakspere'. Separated thematically, Volume I contains Comedies, Volume II contains Tragedies, and Volume III contains Historical Plays. Illustrated throughout by Kenny Meadows. Meadow's was a British caricaturist and illustrator. He is perhaps best known for his contributions to the successful humourous periodical, Punch. With additional notes and essay by Barry Cornwall. Barry Cornwall was the pseudonym of the English poet Bryan Waller Procter. A significant literary figure, both Thackeray's 'Vanity Fair' and Wilkie Collins's 'The Woman in White' were dedicated to B. W. Procter.

Condition

In half leather binding with marbled boards. Externally, smart. Slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Minor scratches to the spine. Slight rubbing to the front and rear boards of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. Occasional offsetting from the illustrations.
