Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
Lane took up residence in Egypt for several years in order to study the language and people. He wore traditional dress and was frequently mistaken for being a local due to his affinity for the culture. He is probably best remembered for his translation of the 'One Thousand and One Nights'. Lane also produced a comprehensive 'Arabic-English' Lexicon. With the bookplate of Thomas A Dashwood to the front pastedowns. This work looks at the climate, the religion and laws, domestic life, government, dress astrology, superstitions and language of Egypt, in addition to several more aspects of life there.
