Early edition of The Vision; Or Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise of Dante Alighieri translated by Henry Francis Cary in vellum binding. 

A new edition, corrected with the life of Dante, chronological view of his age, additional notes and an eight page index. 

Dante Alighieri was an Italian philosopher, poet, and writer. Some of his work was fundamental to the establishment of Italian literature, specifically his depictions of Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. He is known to have influenced famous names like Geoffrey Chaucer and John Milton.

Very scarce mid nineteenth century edition.

Prior owner's contemporary ink inscription from 1846. 


Condition

In vellum binding. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The vellum is slightly discoloured. Prior owner's contemporary ink inscription from 1846. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean.
