What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
This humorous celebration of tobacco and smoking includes the assertion that 'in this world, the great thing, that which must be considered as pre-eminent, is happiness - and great happiness is to be found in Tobacco, and from Tobacco'.
The author, George Thomas Fisher, dedicates the work to 'Glorious people! Smokers!', and includes chapters with titles including 'different kinds of tobacco', 'statistics of tobacco', 'tobacco and Byron', and 'of the pipe as a means of public instruction'. One particularly interesting section, titled 'prophecy for 1945' predicts the future of smoking in England.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and vignette illustrations by W.A. and F.G. Delamotte.
With six pages of advertisements to the rear.
The first edition of this scarce and entertaining work.
