The first edition of this work. In the original French. This work is a collection of short works showing the private and public life of those who live in Paris. Including works by George Sand, P. J. Stahl, Leon Gozlan, P. Pascal, Frederic Soulie, Charles Nodier, Eugene Briffault, S. Lavalette, Honore de Balzac, Taxile Delord, Alphonse Karr, Mery, A. Juncetis, Gerard de Nerval, Arsene Houssaye, Albert Aubert, Theophile Gautier, Octave Feuillet, Alfred de Musset, and Frederic Berat. Illustrated with numerous in-text illustrations and ninety-nine plates throughout. A year after this volume was published a second volume was published, which didn't sell as well as this first volume.
In the original quarter crushed morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, the spine and joints are faded. Small marks to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with only the odd spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page. Repairs to page 309/310, repairing a large tear.
